BRMC’s cover of ‘God’s Gonna Cut You Down’

Earlier today BRMC posted this on Facebook:
For the premiere of ‘Man In Full’ on Netflix this week we’ve released three different mixes to our cover of ‘God’s Gonna Cut You Down’ featured in the series. There are layers of stories and history in songs, we’d like to give a nod & thank you to those who originally recorded some of the first versions: Golden Gate Quartet 1946-1947, The Jubalaires 1947, Bill Landford & The Landfordaires 1950, Odetta 1957. We discovered the song being fans of Odetta and after Johnny Cash’s recording was released discovered others.
We initially tried doing a version ages ago but weren’t sure where it should go, so it was curious being asked to approach the song again in a few different ways for this series. Big thanks to those who helped collaborate on it along the way, all the best to everyone we hope you can enjoy & find good things along the way.
Also, a few days/weeks ago, this video of Peter Hayes jamming surfaced on TC Electronic’s social media channels:

From William, the creator of The Limehouse Podcast:

So this week I touch base with one of the most iconic figures in rock n roll. Peter Hayes has been front and centre of Black Rebel Motorcycle Club for twenty years. Hard to believe it’s been that long when I think back to the days of going to see them. In the early 00’s I thought I was going to live forever; the bands such as BRMC gave you a certain amount of bulletproof lifestyle.

I definitely owe quick a bit to @thealexwintershow for taking me to endless inspiring gigs from BRMC to The Libertines when they had nothing more than a handful of followers.

My conversation with Peter is right up there with the most fun I’ve had. Those of you that listened to the Danny episode will know I had a great time. This was just such a connection. It’s not often a guest really takes the time to ask about the show, it’s history; so we really had a great two way chat! We talk about studio time, life on the road, anxiety, NME and so much more.

WATCH The Songbook: Peter Hayes of BRMC on Gibson TV

GuitarWorld reported that Gibson has launched Gibson TV, an online television network dedicated to guitars and music culture:

Hosted on YouTube and featuring all-new series Gibson promises that it will break out of the gear demo, interview and behind-the-scenes content trifecta to offer guitarists something new.

Those looking for something performance-based should check out The Songbook, which features stripped-down acoustic sets.

Upon Gibson TV’s launch, The Songbook has performances from Samantha Fish, Peter Hayes of the Black Rebel Motorcycle Club and Patrick Park (and his dog).

Peter Hayes of Black Rebel Motorcycle Club first picked up the guitar at the age of 14 when he began trying to figure out how to play his mother’s classical guitar. As he continued to play, his mother showed him flamenco and finger picking styles that had a strong influence on his playing and technique.

Peter would eventually go on to play with The Brian Jonestown Massacre and eventually form Black Rebel Motorcycle Club with Robert Levon Been in 1998.

In this episode of The Songbook, Peter stopped by to perform the Black Rebel Motorcycle Club song “Shuffle Your Feet.”
