    Update On Leah’s Health

A few days ago, BRMC posted this to the email list:

‘We have been overwhelmed by the concern and support from everyone out there with regards to Leah’s medical condition. We just wanted to let everyone know that surgery has been scheduled for late November with one of the top neurosurgeons in Los Angeles (who is coincidentally also a very big BRMC fan). This is a relatively safe procedure. However, there will be a considerable recovery time needed with physical therapy. We will keep everyone updated though in the months ahead, as we know there is so much genuine concern and support all around us at this time. For those of you who have been asking how to help, there is a donation link below. As well as an exclusive BRMC t-shirt, of which all proceeds go towards medical expenses.’

  • Message from Leah/Moon Block Party announcement

Message from Leah/Moon Block Party announcement

Earlier today, Leah of BRMC posted an announcement on the band’s website and Facebook page about having a personal medical issue called Chiari Malformations, a structural defect found in her brain and skull that affect her balance and other functions, which will require emergency surgery. Unfortunately, this means BRMC have to cancel their upcoming performance at Moon Block Party:

    Dear Moon Block Party Fans,

We are sad to announce that BRMC have cancelled their performance at Saturdays Pomona Fairplex show due to a serious illness within the band.
Please follow this link for the bands offical statement: http://blackrebelmotorcycleclub.com/news/a-message-from-leah/
As a team, Moon Block Party are beside ourselves and wish Leah a swift recovery. We would urge you the fans to come out to the festival and enjoy the amazing line up we have still performing. At this time we are trying to find a replacement band but we know you will appreciate that we are a day away from the show and perhaps this will not be possible.
We would like Moon Block Party to act as a conductor of positive energy in which thousands of us will come together, through music and focus our energy towards Leah in this unsettling time for her. We understand that this totally sucks for all those who were excited to see BRMC, but it sucks even more for Leah. This is bigger than the festival. Our thoughts are with you Leah. We are staying positive and hope to have a great show with you in our hearts and minds.

We’re still waiting to see if there will be a last minute replacement, until then please send all your love and support to Leah during this time and let’s hope she has a fast and full recovery!

“The Art of Dying” at George Fest/Best Fest

In case you were unable to attend George Fest at The Fonda Theatre Los Angeles September 28, 2014, a couple videographers were kind enough to record the song BRMC played called “The Art of Dying” from George Harrison’s 1970 album ‘All Things Must Pass.’  (Photo: Rozette Diaz/RestlessCities.com)

There are also many other photos of BRMC on their Facebook album by Michelle Shiers Photography, which are also featured on BuzzBandsLA’s review.

  • Life After Beth trailer + limited release

Life After Beth trailer + limited release

If you hadn’t heard, the dark comedy that BRMC scored Life After Beth has been in limited release in select cities, as well as on DirecTV. Director Jeff Baena spoke to Under The Radar and mentioned BRMC’s involvement in the film:

We’ve done plenty of features on Black Rebel Motorcycle Club over the years. Can you tell us how you snagged them compose the film’s score?

So Robert Been, who’s the singer and bassist, is a really close friend of mine. I’ve known him for 12 years or so. Back when I originally wrote this I’d talked to him about working together. At that point they hadn’t even licensed any of their songs for commercials or movies or anything, so it was all kind of new to them and all new to me. But he’s a good friend of mine, and we’d always talked about working together. When this [film] became real, of course I first went to him and Peter [Hayes] and asked if they’d be interested in doing something like this, and they were super excited by the idea. They’d never done a score before so it was a learning curve for them … but once we found our way, it was so rewarding and amazing.”
